This is Kevin Craft and I wanted to share some information with you about the materials used in Grow Bags and Grow Beds. I also want to talk about the difference in Made in the USA and Made with USA Materials. (We do both)
At Honor we use the best material in the world for our Grow Bags. It’s a premium material Made in the USA and a safe material to use for grow bags. It’s made of 100% polyester yarns as a base with a UL GREENGUARD Certified vinyl coating. The strength and dimensional stability of our material is far superior to what we’ve found from most other materials. This allows us to provide a material that not only lasts a long time, but will keep and hold it’s shape after years of use. This is important because our material is designed to provide the proper airflow to your root system and maintaining the structural integrity of the material over time will provide proper airflow long-term. Lower quality and imported materials loose structural integrity much faster. Ou material is also one of the safest to use around soils and Espe organic soils.
At the time of writing this, most of the other grow bag and grow bed manufacturers that we’ve seen and tested use an imported material. Most Of these materials are imported from China. They cost leSs since they Have less restrictions on Clean manufacturing And on What raw materials are allowed in the product. These materials are typically a coated Plastic or PVC and many have chemicals added to last longer.
Many of the other grow bag and grow bed companies make their products in the USA, but they don’t use a premium USA made fabric. Why is this? It’s simple. We pay almost 3 times as much for our premium materiaLs Vs. imported MATERIALS. The iMported materials look similar, but they’re made to be cost effective. A lot of the imported material we see being used for gRow bags Are typically Designed for industries like erosion control on rOadways and other low-performance industries. Our material is used for high-performance applications that demand the Highest performance and the cleanest material.
Being Made in the USA is not the same as Using USA Made Premium Materials. Just because it’s made in the usa doesn’t mean it is made with premium usa material.
Our material is certified by the UL Institute which is considered A leading expert in safe materials for thr united states.
Our material is UL GREENGUARD Certified. Products that have achieved GREENGUARD Certification are scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure in the product.
Our material also utilizes the safest and highest quality antimicrobial technology available. Our material Is one of the only fabrics in the world to include the latest microbial protection thats safe for Soils. Our antimicrobial protection works continuously to protect against the growth of unwanted bacteria, mildew, mold, stains and odors. This helps ensure your bags stay as clean as possible. This also ensures that the antiMicrobial properties don’t cause harm to the beneficial bacteria in your soil or grow medium.
Now to get a little more technical. Not all antimicrobial applications are created equal. Some materials simply have a chemical added. Many fabrics also use antimicrobial nanotechnologies or nanosilver technologies that aren’t as safe.
Unlike nanotechnologies, our antimicrobial properties are bound into solid products during manufacturing. This is VERY IMPORTANT because there is very little chance for harmful chemicals to leach into your soil with our material. This is very important for growers doing living soils or doing organic growing. I can’t tell you how many Organic Growers I see using Grow Bags or Grow Beds made with some very dangerous chemicals. They spend so much time growing clean soils and then they don’t even know their bags are leaching chemicals into their soil system. Yuck! Most growers just don’t know because nobody has talked about this yet.
The bottom line is this. We use the best materials in the world. We’ve tested so many other materials that are much cheaper but they just don’t stack up to our material. We will always be looking for the best, the cleanest and the safest materials to use for our growers. We’re committed to making the best products in the world.
So in summary, make sure you know what you are paying for. Just because a Grow Bag is a few dollars less, or made in the USA, what are you actually getting? do you think a CHEAPER grow bag is using the best MATERIALS for Your soIl? Does the imported material have chemicals applied? Does the imported material maintain structural integrity grow-after-grow? Does it provide proper airflow? Is the material certified by any trustworthy organizations like UL? These are the questions we asked a few years back when we decided to upgrade our materials to our current USA made material. Trust us, it would have been much easier to just buy the cheap imported materials, put our awesome logo on it and make morE money. But were not just about the money. We use these products.
